BIO

Yehyun Shin majored in chemical engineering as an undergraduate, but throughout her graduate studies, she developed into an interdisciplinary researcher with a broad understanding not only of materials and their properties, but also of transistor operation and electronic engineering as a whole. In particular, she conducted outstanding research across the entire process of carbon nanotube (CNT) technology—from high-density alignment to the fabrication, measurement, and analysis of actual transistors. CNTs are regarded as promising next-generation channel materials for overcoming the scaling limitations of silicon-based logic transistors. Based on these research capabilities, she achieved the distinction of publishing a paper as a co-first author at IEEE IEDM, one of the world’s most prestigious international conferences in the semiconductor field. For CNT alignment research, she directly designed and set up the DLSA process equipment. Her work was grounded in extensive literature review to develop a deep understanding of polymer–CNT and CNT–CNT interactions, as well as the characteristics of the mixed zone formed at liquid interfaces. She also interpreted and optimized the various process variables involved in each experiment, including temperature, speed, and vibration. Beyond learning the operating principles of analytical equipment used to investigate otherwise invisible phenomena, she carried out the measurements herself as an equipment operator. She demonstrated not only the ability to independently design research topics and carry them through to completion, but also exceptional collaborative skills: accurately identifying what was needed for a project and providing participating researchers with clear roles and direction. Above all, she was a researcher who never lost her pure curiosity and drive to ask questions. Yehyun Shin was not only an excellent researcher and colleague, but also like family to the members of the DSIL laboratory. She always looked after others before herself and became a source of support by carefully understanding each person’s personality and circumstances, then offering the words and actions they needed. Her warmth, which allowed people to share their hardships and concerns comfortably, was a great source of strength for everyone in the laboratory. The regret that we could not continue more research together still remains. However, the pure passion for research and the warm heart toward others that Yehyun Shin showed will remain an important value of the DSIL laboratory for years to come. Wherever she may be and whatever she chooses to do, we sincerely hope that Ye-hyun will always be happy and continue to shine.
